A syllable is a word or part of a word that contains one vowel sound.
音節,只有一個母音的部分,有許多規則要遵守。
1. When two consonants separate two vowel sounds, the first syllable usually ends after the first consonant. This rule usually does not apply with digraphs and blends.
當兩個母音被兩個子音分開時,第一個音節通常以第一個子音結束。此規則不適用於digraphs及blends

2. When only one consonant separates two vowel sounds, the first syllable usually ends with the first vowel sound.
當兩個母音被一個子音分開時,第一個音節通常以第一個母音結束。
open=o/pen
below=be/low
human=hu/man
around=a/round
petal=pe/tal
3. When “le” comes at the end of a word, it usually adds a syllable to the word. The consonant before the “le” is part of the last syllable.
bubble=bub/ble
middle=mid/dle
eagle=ea/gle
bettle=bee/tle
dazzle=daz/zle
4. When a root word has a prefix or a suffix added to it, the prefix or the suffix usually makes a syllable.
You cannot break the root word. But there is a connecting sound between the prefix or suffix and the root.

reheat=re/heat
heats=heat/s
heated=heat/ed
heater=heat/er
heating=heat/ing
unheated=un/heat/ed
unlock=un/lock
return=re/turn
worker=work/er
joyful=joy/ful
